OpenAI DevDay 2026 recap: every announcement, from dots to GPT-6.1 Sol

OpenAI called DevDay 2026 its biggest yet, with more than 20 announcements. ChatGPT now reaches 1.2 billion weekly users, and much of the event focused on agents that take on ongoing work and on opening ChatGPT as a platform developers can build inside.

New ways of working

Dots

Always-on agents that learn what matters to you and work in the background. Available on Pro and Business Premium in eligible markets; Enterprise, Edu and Healthcare get an admin-enabled beta.

GPT-6.1 Sol

An upgrade to GPT-6 Sol with strong results in agentic coding, computer use and professional work. OpenAI says it approaches Astra-level intelligence at one fifth of Astra's standard token prices. Available to API, Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise and Edu users.

Ultrafast

A premium speed tier: up to 8× faster generation (300 tokens per second) in Codex and up to 6× in the API. GPT-6 Astra Ultrafast is available now in the API and in ChatGPT Work and Codex on Pro 500 and Enterprise; GPT-6.1 Sol Ultrafast is coming soon.

Private Intelligence

Zero Data Retention with Private Safety Processing runs automated safety reviews without OpenAI staff seeing the content. A Private Inference preview combining confidential computing with verifiable controls is due this fall.

Codex and the API

• Codex in the cloud: run Codex on your computer, from your phone, or in the cloud, with reusable team environments.
• Refreshed Codex CLI: voice control, a new /agents view for parallel tasks, and a cleaner terminal UI. All plans.
• Code Review: review diffs across projects in the ChatGPT desktop app, with automatic cloud reviews for GitHub and GitLab.
• Codex Security Cloud: scan whole GitHub repositories on demand or on a schedule; Codex investigates, dedupes and prepares fixes.
• Decisions API: fast answers to user-defined questions with fixed answer sets, for classification and routing. Limited preview.
• Agents API with computer use: build agents that operate software, with multi-agent orchestration, tool search and context compaction.
• Bedrock Managed Agents: OpenAI agents that run entirely inside AWS, built with Amazon.

Plugins and the ChatGPT platform

• Plugin extensions: plugins can get a sidebar home, interactive panels next to the conversation, and custom file viewers. All plans.
• Better plugin creation and discovery: a Plugin Creator, a clearer submission flow, and improved ranking and recommendations in the directory.
• Sites can host plugins: add ChatGPT plugins to Sites so teammates use them with their own data. Business, Enterprise, Healthcare and Edu.
• MCP events: support for the proposed MCP Events spec, so plugins can trigger automations when something happens in a connected app. All plans.

People and AI working together

• ChatGPT Space: a shared home where teammates, ChatGPT and your dot build on common knowledge.
• Pages: a new document type for human and agent collaboration: write, research, chart and visualize, then invite your team.
• Collaborative slides: create and co-edit decks with teammates and agents; export to PowerPoint or Google Slides. Coming in the next few weeks.
• Teams and shared tasks: share pages, slides, plugins and spreadsheets, and delegate recurring work on a schedule or on events.
• @ChatGPT in Slack and Microsoft Teams: mention ChatGPT in channels, threads or DMs.
• Meetings plugin: notes and action items saved to ChatGPT Space; audio is deleted once notes are ready. Beta on macOS.
• Shareable profiles: showcase Sites and plugins for others to find and reuse.

Subscriptions

• Sign in with ChatGPT: use your plan allowance across 16 partner tools, including Devin, Notion, Vercel, T3, OpenClaw and Dactyl.
• Pro 500: the highest usage tier at 25× the Plus allowance, including Ultrafast. Bloomberg reports it as a new $500 tier.
• OpenAI Marketplace: enterprises can apply part of their OpenAI commitment to 32 approved partners, including Adobe, Figma, Salesforce and CrowdStrike.
