Dots usage limits: what counts?
Talking to your dot is free within your plan. The work it hands off to Codex or ChatGPT Work is not: those tasks count toward your usage limits like any other task.

When does a dot start a counted task?
A dot can divide work among background agents and start separate tasks. These are the tasks to watch:
- New local Work or Codex task on a computer connected to your dot.
- Existing local Codex task your dot continues on a connected computer.
- New cloud coding task in a Codex cloud environment you have set up.
You can see these in your dot's profile under Activity, including work happening in the background.
How to stay in control
- Ask before heavy work. Tell your dot to check with you before it starts a Codex or Work task.
- Review Activity. Open your dot's profile and select Activity to see running and delegated tasks.
- Stop the right thing. Pause stops your dot's current main task only. Stop delegated tasks from Activity, and disable recurring work from Scheduled.
- Give recurring tasks an end date. When you schedule work, include how long it should run.
Early users report that a dot can't always tell you how much a specific task used, so check your plan's usage settings directly rather than asking your dot. See also the related Pro 500 plan, which offers 25× the Plus allowance.

Do Enterprise model settings apply to dots?
No. According to OpenAI, Enterprise model controls and default model settings don't apply to dots.
